I'm a Senior Research Scientist in Healthcare Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at the Technological University Dublin, currently working on applying explainable AI approaches to clinical decision support systems and healthcare operations optimization. I previously did research at various Irish hospitals and healthcare institutions working with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, hospital managers, and data scientists.
My work focuses on developing innovative analytical and AI solutions to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. I have extensive experience in applying simulation modeling, machine learning, and optimization techniques to address complex healthcare challenges like patient flow management, resource allocation, and clinical decision support. I've published numerous papers on using hybrid modeling approaches that combine system dynamics, discrete event simulation, and machine learning to tackle issues like delayed discharges, ED overcrowding, and optimal staff scheduling in hospitals.
More recently, my research has expanded into explainable AI for healthcare applications, particularly investigating how to make AI/ML models more interpretable and trustworthy for clinical use. I lead projects developing transparent AI systems that can support medical decisions while providing clear explanations of their reasoning. I'm passionate about bridging the gap between advanced analytics and practical healthcare delivery through applied research that directly impacts patient care and hospital operations.
